Join the Great Lakes Economic Development Council (Great Lakes EDC) for the latest installment of our Be Greater! digital learning series.
Communities across the Great Lakes region are working to grow more inclusive and resilient local economies — often with small teams, limited capacity, and ongoing uncertainty. From brain drain and legacy industries to shifting policies and funding cycles, economic development leaders are being asked to do more with less.
This interactive session explores how technology can support collaboration, trust, and inclusion in local economic ecosystems — without replacing relationship-based work or adding unnecessary complexity.
Rather than promoting a single model or tool, the discussion will highlight real-world patterns, practical examples, and adaptable strategies that communities can shape to fit their local context. Participants will learn how economic development teams are using technology to better understand their full ecosystem, align partners around shared outcomes, support entrepreneurs more effectively, and measure progress in meaningful ways.
Designed for economic developers, small business support organizations, chambers of commerce, nonprofit leaders, and community stakeholders, this session will include live polls, reflection prompts, and time for Q&A to surface shared challenges and peer learning across the Great Lakes region.
At the end of the session, participants will learn:
- How to broaden who is considered part of the local economic ecosystem
- Ways to align partners around shared goals, even across sectors and borders
- How trust can be built and maintained through clarity and consistency
- Strategies for using technology to support small teams — not overwhelm them
- Approaches to measuring progress that support learning, not just reporting
